Market: Beijing Guoan win
Odds: 3/4 @
Hoping to find a route into the AFC Champions League spots this weekend, Beijing Guoan will welcome Wuhan Three Towns to the Workers Stadium on Sunday lunchtime.
Starting with the hosts, only continuing on what has been a stellar purple patch since opening up the 2024 campaign, Beijing Guoan are in the midst of a real purple patch. Last seen putting in another dominant display as they secured a 2-0 victory against Shandong Taishan, Ricardo Soares’ men have their sights firmly set on securing a lucrative AFC Champions League ticket this season. Extending on their FA Cup adventure on June 22nd as they secured a stellar 4-0 romp away at Suzhou Dongwu, the former Estoril boss has seen his high-flying squad win all of their previous three domestic appearances across all competitions by an aggregate score 10-0. Signing off June with another 4-0 victory against Cangzhou, Sunday’s hosts have also suffered just a pair of defeats from any of their last 13 outings. With that extended flurry stemming all the way back to April 9th, Beijing Guoan have also continued to shine with their performances on home soil. In fact, on what has become a remarkable purple patch, Soares’ side have won all of their previous six straight showdowns at the Workers Stadium.
As for the visitors, while Wuhan might have secured a much-welcomed 1-0 win against Qingdao West Coast last month, it appears that was nothing more than a minor boost for the Three Towns. Last seen falling to a 2-1 defeat at home against Nantong, Ricardo Rodriguez’s men have drastically struggled to find any kind of stability since opening up the 2024 campaign. Almost finding themselves sat in Super League limbo, the one-time Girona boss has now seen his squad lose all of their previous three appearances across all competitions. Crashing out of the FA Cup on June 21st as they suffered an action-packed 4-3 loss at the hands of Guangxi Pingguo Haliao, Wuhan have continued to show some glaring defensive struggles. It should also be noted, Sunday’s guests have lost five of their last six outings. Facing what will be another major challenge here, Rodriguez’s downbeat squad are rightfully pencilled in as a landslide underdog this weekend. Given what has been a huge recent gulf in class, we are backing a home victory here.
